Does my Overland Kitchen need to be permanently installed?

No. There are many reasons why committing to a permanent kitchen installation in your vehicle may be preferable. While the kitchen can be permanently mounted to your vehicle, it can also be secured using the ratchet straps to the vehicle’s existing cargo tie down points. Alternatively, the draw latches on the back of the kitchen may be used to fasten the kitchen to your vehicle's cargo D-rings for strap free temporary installation. There are multiple holes pre-drilled on the top which you can mount D-rings onto. Using one of these approaches, you can simply remove your vehicle kitchen when you need your rig to perform its other day to day tasks. 

For permanent installation, there is a 16-hole bolt pattern on the bottom of the kitchen for bolting to a platform or vehicle tub. New bolt holes may be easily drilled on any side of the kitchen for DIY installations.

Why are Overland kitchens made with stainless steel?

We realize that a stainless steel vehicle drawer system is unique. In fact, we’d venture to say we are the only brand on the market utilizing this material for a vehicle mounted kitchen.

But when you think about it, stainless steel is a standard in the food industry and there are many other reasons you will love this material for your kitchen.

• At the top is durability in all conditions. Let’s face it, going camping involves exposing yourself and your gear to the elements but you want the gear you invest in to last as long as possible. A stainless steel vehicle kitchen means your product will last a lifetime. Whatever nature can throw down from above- rain, snow, ash, sand, it just doesn’t make a difference to stainless steel.

• The next reason is its strength. This means a whole cabinet can be built with just a fraction of the width of plywood or other wood based materials, maximizing your drawer and fridge cabinet space.

• Another factor which makes this material so popular in the kitchen industry is it is a sanitary food-grade surface. You can eat right off of it if you wanted to and it does not offer a welcoming environment for bacteria to grow. We all know it’s hard enough to stay clean when you’re outdoors so having a surface like stainless steel to prepare your meals on is huge.

• Not to mention it’s inherently heat safe. No worries about using a trivet for most things, eliminating one less thing to think about during meal prep.  

Can Overland Kitchens survive 4x4 trails?

We’re glad you asked. For those seeking out a little dirt, a few rocks and the experience of what your overland rig is capable of, it’s important to know this is another reason why we chose stainless steel. It is super solid. In fact, we recently completed some of the most challenging trails Baja could throw at us, breaking more than a few things on our Jeep but the kitchen remained unscathed. Trail damage happens. Steel does not break like wood does under stress, and when metal bends, it can be bent back into shape with simple tools.

What are my fridge options for the Overland Kitchen?

With the constantly evolving refrigerator and cooler product market, we suggest that you get the product specifications for the unit you are interested in and review the kitchen dimensions provided below. These are the internal refrigerator drawer and storage cabinet dimensions for both expedition kitchen models for you to verify fitment. • 28” Expedition Kitchen fridge tray dimensions are: 28.2” x 15.8″W x 21.1”H.

• 23” Expedition Kitchen fridge tray dimensions are: 28.2”H x 17.1″W x 20.67″H, a slightly roomier width than the 28” model.

How can I keep my overland kitchen looking new?

Stainless steel is forgiving to wear. It does not scuff easily but if this happens, it can be buffed out using a green general purpose Scotch-Brite pad. No fancy products are needed, in fact, avoid using any abrasive cleaners. Begin with light strokes and use a little water with the pad.

What kinds of stoves are compatible with the overland kitchen?

One thing that becomes immediately clear when choosing a camp stove is just how many options exist on the market. The good news is that our stove slides can accommodate just about any of them. Whether you prefer the convenience of propane or the flexibility of a dual-fuel, the choice is up to you. The stove shelf platform is the same for all three kitchen models, with the following dimensions: 22.7″D x 15″W x 7″H. 

How are overland kitchens Made?

Our kitchens are designed and manufactured using methodologies adapted from the aerospace industry. The products are designed and configuration managed using the Autodesk Fusion 360 online CAD platform. The sheet metal parts are then cut by computer using a fiber laser CNC machine and bent into parts by computer using a CNC press brake. This fully robotic part production process is fast, efficient, and produces high-tolerance parts. Final assembly is performed by hand using a variety of high quality rivets and fasteners.

Where are overland kitchens Made?

Our kitchens are fabricated, assembled and shipped globally from British Columbia, Canada at a state-of-the-art high-mix, low-volume sheet metal fabrication facility.
